Why does the US Government not recognize Domestic Violence against Husbands?

I read an article (sorry don't have a link, maybe you can google) that a wife feed broken glass to her husband intentionally and he died, the woman got only 2 years in prison cause the State does not recognize Domestic Violence where the wife is the perpetrator.
