Wouldn't a "death by pain" be more suitable for certain crimes than perpetual prison or death penalty?

There are some crimes that are so disgustingly evil that i think that the perpetrator should be sentenced to "death by pain" or maybe something like 20 years of torture or having their limbs cut off. Death penalty just seems like too easy a way out and with life in prison the person can just get used to it. I just watched suckerpunch and it made me think about it.
